Promit joined Maitland in September 2024 following the successful completion of his pupillage under the supervision of Tim Calland, Oliver Phillips, Jonathan Allcock, Gabriella McNicholas, and Narinder Jhittay. He is developing a broad commercial chancery practice and accepts instructions across all of Chambers’ practice areas, including Commercial Litigation, International Arbitration, Civil Fraud, Company and Partnership, Restructuring and Insolvency, Trusts, and Property.

Before transferring to the Bar, Promit was a solicitor-advocate specialising in international commercial and investor-state arbitrations and related litigation. He has worked at magic circle law firms in London and Singapore.

Promit is also admitted to practise in India.

Promit’s experience prior to joining Maitland included:

  • Representing a global technology company in an arbitration (SIAC Rules, India seated) and related litigation concerning disputes related to its equity investment in an Indian multi-brand offline retail company.
  • Representing the main contractor of a nuclear power plant in the UAE in a construction arbitration (LCIA Rules, London seated) against its subcontractors.
  • Representing the Republic of India in various investment treaty arbitrations seated in London and Singapore concerning disputes related to foreign investments in the energy, mining, and transportation sectors.
  • Representing a Cypriot bank in an arbitration (ICC Rules, London seated) against an insurance company concerning disputes related to product distribution arrangements.
  • Representing the majority shareholders of an oilfield equipment manufacturing company in an arbitration against the company’s private equity investors concerning alleged breaches of the shareholders’ agreement (SIAC Rules, Singapore seated).
