John started his career as a junior clerk at Atkin Chambers in 1990. He moved to Maitland Chambers in November 2005 and has been a Senior Clerk since September 2006.
John leads the clerking team and is responsible for ensuring that a modern and efficient business service is provided to clients. He has an in-depth knowledge of each member’s practice and is therefore able to advise clients on their choice of counsel as well as discuss fees. He is responsible for the development of members’ practices and the development of chambers as a whole and is the principal point of contact in relation to new instructions.
John is supported by an experienced, efficient and friendly clerking team who are able to assist instructing professionals with every practical aspect of the work undertaken by our barristers.
John is a fully qualified member of the Institute of Barristers Clerks and serves on its management committee. He also sits on various committees within the Bar Council.
In his spare time John enjoys being with his family and playing the occasional game of golf.
In Legal 500 John has been described as someone who "transcends the role of senior clerk, adding real value to client relationships and chambers as a whole". He runs "a slick operation", is "always courteous" and "makes you feel like your needs are his primary concern".
