After completing pupillage at Maitland, Edward has developed a broad commercial practice, in particular in arbitration, fraud, energy (including energy related international construction disputes), property, and professional negligence matters.

Prior to coming to the bar, Edward trained as a Persian linguist and worked as an intelligence analyst/linguist at GCHQ.

      • Counsel (instructed by Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP) for Respondents to a USD 1.5 million LCIA arbitration claim in respect of personal guarantee [2020].

      • Acting for the owner of a 5-star Middle Eastern hotel (instructed by McCarthy Denning) in respect of its rights to terminate a hotel management agreement. Successfully brought challenge to the jurisdiction of the Tribunal [2024].

      • Counsel (instructed by Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP) for an operator and majority participant involved in a USD 50 million dispute under a JOA in relation to an oilfield development project in Central Asia determined under an ICC arbitration [2019].
      • Counsel (instructed by Adams & Remers LLP) for defendants to a claim between property developers over the ownership of a Spanish company, involving allegations of economic duress, and jurisdictional issues under the Recast Brussels Regulation [2020].       • Junior counsel (led by Christopher Parker KC and instructed by Gateley plc) for claimant liquidators in a multi-million pound claim for dishonest breaches of trust brought against the director and trust administration services provider of two property holding companies in connection with alleged tax evasion [current].
      • Junior counsel (led by Christopher Parker KC and instructed by Gateley plc) for the claimant in European Real Estate Debt Fund (Cayman) Limited v Treon [2021] EWHC 2866 (Ch), a high value fraud and unlawful mean conspiracy claim in respect of an investment in a convertible loan note issue by a company operating a group of care homes [2021].

      • Assisting David Mumford KC and Andrew Westwood KC and instructed by Travers Thorpe Alberga on behalf of defendant BVI companies challenging the appointment of receivers over shares in the companies, who were appointed in connection with a HK$2 billion loan in respect of a Hong Kong property development [current].

      • Junior Counsel for African Bank (instructed by Dentons UKMEA LLP) defending a US$23m claim for breach of contract [current]

Successfully established a claim in unjust enrichment [2023].
      • Junior counsel (led by Joe Smouha KC, Laura John & Emily Wood and instructed by Dentons UKMEA LLP) for the defendant bank in Hockin v RBS, a multi-million pound claim, in which the claimants alleged mis-selling of an interest rate derivative product, manipulation of LIBOR, unlawful means conspiracy and breach of an implied duty of good faith [2017].
    • Real Estate

      • Counsel for the Port of London Authority successfully claiming possession of the River Thames against the owner of a houseboat [2022]    
      • Counsel for the defendant in The David Roberts Art Foundation Limited v Riedweg, a multi-million pound claim for damages in respect of a contract for the sale of a large property in Camden involving issues of charity law, in particular charity trustees’ obligations when disposing of charity land, and issues of company law. Successfully resisted an application for summary judgment [2019] EWHC 1358 (Ch)
    • Professional Negligence

      • Acting for claimant (instructed by Forsters) in a claim for damages flowing from a negligent valuation of substantial London property [current].
      • Advised a potential claimant in respect of negligent advice provided by a conveyancer regarding ground rent and other provisions in a new lease for London property [2022].

      Many of Edward’s cases involve aspects of company or partnership law.
