Maitland is experienced in advising on and litigating insurance and reinsurance disputes, including disputes over the proper construction of insurance contracts, reinsurance treaties, third party rights under such contracts and treaties, the scope of cover and the rights of insurers to avoid liability. Our work includes disputes concerning directors' and officers' fidelity, liability and financial guarantee insurance. We are also regularly instructed in professional negligence claims arising in connection with insurance matters, including in particular claims against brokers.

Recent experience in the insurance sector includes Noblebright Ltd v Sirius International Corporation (a claim arising out of disputed non- disclosure) and Re J A Chapman & Co Ltd (a case regarding the practice of "grossing up" within an insurance business)
